Job Title: Community Liaison Officer

Job Description

  • We are seeking a Community Liaison Officer, a highly organized and detail-oriented person to join their team.
  • As a CLO, he/she will provide administrative and hands on support to the ESG department in in implementing the group Environmental and Social Action Plan (ESAP) and other social compliance issues as assigned by the Group ESG Manager.

Responsibilities
General:

  • Continuously develop, update and implement the Company’s Corporate and Operational Social Management System (incl. Social Policies and Management Plans) and work with the Company’s senior management to maintain FSC Forest Management certification across the Company, amongst other compliance standards;
  • Lead and work with the Company’s management team to provide overall co-ordination of the company’s social policies and activities;
  • Support the Community teams to transmit their compliance requirements and messages to the company’s employees and wider community, including local and national stakeholders where applicable. Technical appreciation and high-level understanding of these fields is therefore required;
  • Oversee all social monitoring activities, including but not limited to: design and implementation of socio-economic baseline studies, High Conservation Value (HCV) Assessments, gender studies;
  • Design, oversee and monitor social impact initiatives relevant to outputs of above.

External Relations

  • Be the point of contact for all Company social matters, communicating with the Company’s management and operations teams, third-party consultants and all stakeholders including company shareholders, governmental agencies and local communities, under the direction of the Manager Director and Group ESG Manager;
  • Develop and implement the Company’s stakeholder engagement strategy and plans and oversee their implementation;
  • Implement and oversee formal external grievance mechanisms as part of a coordinated stakeholder engagement strategy
  • Responsible for social-related conflict resolution processes;

Compliance

  • Build and ensure Company compliance to the principles and criteria of the FSC and international good practice standards on Social Sustainability;
  • Provide guidance and support senior managers, and ensure Company compliance with all relevant national and international legislation on social standards;
  • Carry out regular social audits and provide a regular audit report to management and the Group ESG Manager on a monthly and annual basis as required;

Corporate Social Impact

  • Develop the Company’s corporate social responsibility and impact strategy and plans and oversee their implementation;
  • Manage CSR and impact reporting aligned with international reporting processes
  • Work with and manage external consultants as required.

Requirements

  • To be considered for this role you will be a hands-on, goal-oriented individual with over 5 years’ experience in a similar role with an internationally financed organization, and experience of compliance to globally recognized standards.
  • The candidate will also require excellent knowledge of FSC and IFC-PS compliance and what this requires, as well as experience reporting to internationally based ESG experts, in a multi-cultural environment.
  • The candidate must be able to demonstrate a positive attitude and excitement for the role, as well as aptitude to stay up to date with regard to compliance and impact standards and global reporting initiatives.
  • The candidate must have track-record of producing and managing a department budget and meeting targets thereof.
  • A Masters in social science or studies, sustainable development, gender studies, impact management or related fields is prerequisite for this role. Females are encouraged to apply.

Salary
N400,000 – N600,000 / Annually.
