Job Title: Lead Piping Engineer
Locations: Lagos and Port Harcourt, Rivers

Job Summary
- The Lead Piping Engineer is responsible for overseeing all piping engineering activities within an EPCM project, ensuring that all piping designs, procurement, and construction processes are completed to the highest standards of safety, quality, and cost efficiency.
- This position requires leadership skills, technical expertise in piping systems design, and a comprehensive understanding of EPCM processes.
- The Lead Piping Engineer will supervise a team of engineers, coordinate with other disciplines, and liaise with clients and contractors to ensure the successful delivery of the piping portion of the project.
Main Responsibilities
Project Management & Coordination:
- Lead and manage the piping engineering team for the assigned project.
- Collaborate with other engineering disciplines (structural, mechanical, electrical, etc.) to ensure integrated designs.
- Prepare and review engineering schedules, deliverables, and progress reports.
- Ensure effective communication between the project team, client, and contractors.
- Coordinate and oversee the procurement of piping materials and equipment.
Design & Engineering:
- Supervise the development of piping design and layout, including detailed drawings and specifications.
- Ensure compliance with client specifications, industry standards (ASME, API, ANSI, etc.), and local regulations.
- Review and approve piping design calculations, material selections, and stress analysis.
- Address and resolve any design challenges, ensuring solutions are technically sound and cost-effective.
- Oversee 3D modeling and ensure the proper integration of the piping design with other systems.
Technical Leadership & Supervision:
- Provide technical guidance to junior engineers and designers.
- Ensure quality assurance processes are followed during all stages of design and implementation.
- Conduct design reviews and ensure the timely resolution of technical issues or challenges.
- Manage project-specific technical meetings with clients and stakeholders.
Safety & Quality Control:
- Ensure all piping designs meet safety standards and are fully compliant with relevant health, safety, and environmental regulations.
- Oversee the quality control and assurance processes to ensure designs meet industry and project-specific standards.
- Participate in risk assessments and contribute to the identification and mitigation of potential hazards.
Procurement & Construction Support:
- Oversee the preparation of procurement documents, including specifications and material requisitions.
- Provide technical support during the procurement process and ensure the correct materials are selected.
- Coordinate with construction teams to address any field issues related to piping design or installation.
- Support the commissioning phase, providing expertise to ensure the proper installation and operation of piping systems.
Budget & Cost Control:
- Ensure the piping engineering scope is completed within budget and schedule.
- Monitor and control piping engineering costs, and assist in tracking and forecasting project expenses.
Qualifications
Education:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related field.
Experience:
- 15 – 20 years of experience in piping design and engineering, with at least 10 years in a leadership or supervisory role within an EPCM environment.
- Extensive experience with piping systems design, layout, and stress analysis.
- Proven track record in delivering complex EPCM projects, including oil & gas, petrochemical, or power industries.
- Experience with relevant piping design software (e.g., AutoCAD, PDMS, or other 3D CAD tools).
Certifications:
- Professional Engineer (PE) license or equivalent is preferred.
- Familiarity with international piping codes and standards (e.g., ASME, API, ISO).
Skills & Competencies:
- Technical Expertise: Strong knowledge of piping design, materials, stress analysis, and relevant codes/standards.
- Leadership: Ability to lead and motivate a team, ensuring collaboration across disciplines.
- Project Management: Strong organizational, planning, and coordination skills.
- Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills to interact effectively with stakeholders, clients, and the project team.
- Problem-Solving: Ability to identify issues early and implement corrective actions as needed.
- Safety & Quality Focus: Commitment to maintaining high standards of safety and quality throughout the project lifecycle.
- Software Proficiency: Familiarity with design software, project management tools, and data analysis tools.
