Job Description

  • Responsible for supervising four to seven members of the linguistics department.
  • This includes planning, monitoring, and evaluation of individual work as well as collaborating with mentors and consultants to ensure training, consultant development as applicable, and quality control.
  • Commitment to growing in linguistic knowledge and skills.
  • Ensures proper use of equipment and finances.

Job Responsibilities

  • Supervises four to seven staff in the linguistics domain taking both external requirements and internal priorities into consideration; anticipates, plans, assigns tasks, ensures appropriate follow-up and accountability occur
  • Contributes to a team culture where team members help each other grow in competency and character
  • Proactively and intentionally connects and collaborates with other leaders within SIL Nigeria.
  • Stays abreast of developments in the field of linguistics
  • Ensures linguistics findings are appropriately documented and archived
  • Effectively communicates management expectations to staff and communicates staff perspectives, concerns, and ideas to management​

Education & Experience

  • At least a First four-year Degree from a college or university in Linguistics, a Science, or Management
  • Experience working on cross-cultural teams preferred
  • Experience in team management, preferably two years or more
  • The ideal candidate will have experience in field linguistics in Nigerian languages and, preferably, an advanced degree in applied linguistics or language development.​
