 Background

Justice, Development and Peace Commission (JDPC) is a non-governmental organization which has been engaged in developmental works in Borno, Yobe and Adamawa States for the past 50 years. JDPC also focuses on Agriculture, WaSH, Nutrition, MHPSS and other emergency programming, reaching out to all persons on the basis of need, regardless of creed, ethnicity or nationality.

JDPC is inviting suitably qualified candidate for the above-mentioned position to work in Maiduguri.

Candidate must be prepared to start work as soon as possible.

Post Description:

The MEAL Assistant will follow up on progress and collect data on the effectiveness of planned interventions by collecting and supporting with the data analysis. The MEAL Assistant plays an important role in carrying out MEAL activities in the field, including field monitoring and verification, baseline and endline assessments, needs assessment and surveys. 

Specific duties and responsibilities:

  1. Use data collection tools to gather qualitative and quantitative data at different levels (facility and community).
  2. Support the MEAL department in the development of databases for all programs by using available technologies.
  3. Implement the basic monitoring and evaluation concepts and system in accordance with the purpose of MEAL activities.
  4. Implement field-level MEAL activities according to the MEAL work plan and support M&E activities, such as physical verification of assets, post-distribution monitoring, data quality audits, surveys/assessments, etc.
  5. Ensure data entry using an electronic database.
  6. Conduct on-site routine data quality audits at different field site/office levels
  7. Apply the concept of ‘random sampling’ following instructions/guidelines of a manager while conducting any community-level survey.
  8. Apply the ‘spin-the-bottle’ method used for the selection of households in population-based surveys.
  9. Implement probability and non-probability sampling techniques as and when appropriate after consulting with the manager.
  10. Conduct qualitative data collection activities and review data from the field for deficiencies or errors, correct any incompatibilities if possible.
  11. Regularly perform data cleaning and data integrity and ensure data quality.
  12. Perform data entry using statistical software, under guidance and supervision.
  13. Translate qualitative data from mission language to English and back.
  14. Apply and use basic data visualization skills (use of tables and graphs to represent data and information) for data presentation.
  15. Promote internal learning by sharing timely feedback from and to the field.
  1. Support the program/project in documenting the lessons learned.
  2. Adhere to key concepts and commitments regarding accountability to affected populations (AAP), including IASC CAAP, CHS, and Sphere Humanitarian Charter.
  3. Perform other duties as assigned. 
  4. As applicable to this position, an individual must promote and encourage a culture of compliance and ethics throughout the organization and maintain a clear understanding of Justice Development and Peace Commission in Maiduguri Diocese and donor compliance and ethics standards and adhere to those standards.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS

  1. Minimum of Diploma, HND or a BSc added advantage in related fields. (Social Sciences e.g., Mathematics, Statistics, Economics, Data science, etc)
  2. Experience in Wash, nutrition, FSL and Agric.
  3. Minimum of 3 years working experience NGO setting.
  4. Knowledge of ArcGIS, POWERBI, COMMCARE, KOBOTOOLBOX and ODK.
  5. Willing to travel to project locations as assigned by project officer.
  6. Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
  7. Proven success in designing, implementing, and operating project MEAL systems from project initiation to closeout stages.
  8. Experience in strategic planning and performance measurement, including indicator selection, target setting, reporting, database management, and developing M&E and/performance monitoring plans.
  9. Experience with word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation software.
  10. Working knowledge of data processing computer packages.
  11. Knowledge of the major evaluation methodologies (e.g., qualitative, quantitative, mixed method, and impact) and data collection and analysis methodologies.
  12. Experience managing and providing ongoing training to MEAL field officers.
  13. Ability to facilitate and serve as a project liaison for externally managed evaluations.
  14. Personal and organizational skills, including time management and the ability to meet deadlines.
