JOB PURPOSE

Under the direction of the Medical Activity Manager, the role provides medical care, treatment, and follows-up on patients according to set protocols and universal hygiene standards/precautions. Role-holder provides supportive supervision to staff, MoH staff, and ensures guidelines set in the health protocols are followed during the provision of medical care.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Implement all the protocols and hygiene procedures and supervise his/her team follow the same standards, in order to warrant the quality of the care and service in his/her speciality.
  • Organize and coordinate the activities of his/her team (week’s schedule, annual leave, absences, etc.), evaluate their performance and define and ensure the needs for training of staff, in order to ensure the coverage of the human resources needs and maintain high standards of quality.
  • Carry out and/or supervise rational drug use and medical equipment management working in collaboration with the field pharmacist (drugs orders, follow-up of the stock, storage conditions, inventories, follow-up of expired drugs and their destruction, drugs consumption, etc.) in his or her department, in order to satisfy the needs of material with efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Ensuring that all nursing staff using medical devices are qualified and trained on its use.
  • Ensuring that cleaning and minor maintenance tasks are performed according to the protocols.
  • Reporting any malfunction to the project biomedical service/engineer.
  • Carry-out and/or coordinate administrative (exit-paper, transfer-paper, etc.), information and data collection (patient files, forms, statistics, etc.) tasks, and elaborate regular reporting, in order to have updated and reliable information about the day-to-day activity in the project, output/ outcome and support decision-taking.
  • Give feedback/ reports to medical focal point.
  • Always promote and respect medical secrets and confidentiality.
  • Working in collaboration with SRH supervisors identify Sexually Gender Based Violence victims and referring them to the medical team so they can receive the necessary treatment. Knowing and is aware of the importance and appropriate use of the Post Exposure Prophylaxis (PEP) Kit
  • Ensure that sterilization of medical items is undertaken regularly in field locations.
  • Carrying and supervising administrative procedures and documents (fill in patient’s files, forms, consumptions, statistics, registers, health files, etc.), ensuring an appropriate written/oral handover, and reporting any problematic situations and cases that may arise. Participate in data collection and keeping doctors/supervisors informed.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

  • Diploma in Nursing from an accredited institution.
  • Desirable bachelor’s in science of nursing
  • At least 3 years post-qualifying experience in a similar environment/Humanitarian context
  • Possession of a valid practicing certificate
  • Essential computer literacy (word, excel, and internet)
  • Leadership, people management, and development, teamwork, and cooperation
  • Service Orientation.
  • Understanding of humanitarian operations principles, standards, and best practices
  • Manages effectively his/her own time as well as flexible and available to work overtime when needed.
  • Competent in mission language English and desirable local languages (Shuwa Arabic, Kanuri, and Hausa Languages)
  • Strong interpersonal and team-building skills and excellence as a team player
  • Honesty and integrity and able to cope with stressful situations.
  • Excellent decision-making skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and non-judgmental skills
  • Team player and strong communication skills, both oral and written
  • Proficient in computer applications, especially with MS Word and MS Excel, MS PowerPoint. Valid and current practicing license and/or similar experience in previous role.
  • Excellent report-writing skills
  • Commitment to and understanding of INTERSOS’S aims, values and principles.
