Job Title: Senior Financial Accountant

Location: Lagos
Job type: Full time

Job Description

  • The Senior Financial Accountant is critical to ensuring the financial health of the company.
  • The role encompasses regulatory compliance, accurate financial reporting, and strategic financial management, all of which are integral to the company’s growth and success.
  • This position requires close collaboration with the CEO, Senior Finance Analyst, and other key stakeholders to ensure that all financial operations align with the company’s objectives and comply with international standards.

Responsibilities & Duties
Financial Reporting and Compliance:

  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records and documentation.
  • Prepare and review statutory and consolidated financial statements in compliance with IFRS and other international accounting standards.
  • Conduct regular balance sheet reconciliations to identify and resolve discrepancies.
  • Produce monthly management accounts with qualitative and quantitative analysis, including currency translations.
  • Prepare and review month-end procedures, ensuring accurate journal postings in the ERP system.

Regulatory Compliance:

  • Ensure compliance with tax regulations, VAT, and WHT schedules, including filing statutory payments.
  • Obtain and manage relevant compliance certificates such as Pension, ITF, and NSITF.

Budgeting and Forecasting:

  • Assist in the preparation of budgets and monitor variances to provide actionable insights.
  • Support the creation of detailed financial models to guide decision-making and long-term planning.

Audit and Control:

  • Collaborate with internal teams to prepare for year-end audits, ensuring documentation is complete and audit-ready.
  • Liaise with external auditors to address year-end financial and tax audit requirements.

Leadership and Mentorship:

  • Coach and mentor junior finance team members to enhance their technical and professional skills.
  • Lead by example to maintain high technical standards and ensure timely deliverables.

Account Management:

  • Oversee payables and receivables to ensure smooth financial operations.
  • Maintain accurate records of accounts in QuickBooks, Xero, and other financial systems.

Technical Accounting:

  • Conduct in-depth research and analysis to address complex accounting issues.
  • Document the accounting treatment of complex and judgmental transactions with supporting analysis and literature.

Process Improvement and Systems Optimization:

  • Develop and refine templates and standard operating procedures for financial reporting.
  • Ensure the efficient use of accounting software such as QuickBooks and Xero to maintain financial records.

Qualifications & Skills
Educational Background:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Tax, Accounting, or a related field.
  • Professional certification such as CA, ACCA, or equivalent is required.

Experience:

  • Minimum of 4+ years in financial reporting, group consolidations, and technical accounting.
  • Experience in a startup or fintech environment is a strong advantage.

Technical Expertise:

  • Advanced knowledge of IFRS and international accounting standards.
  • Proficiency in financial software such as QuickBooks, Xero, and ERP systems.

Skills and Competencies:

  • Strong analytical and reconciliation skills.
  • Exceptional problem-solving skills, with the ability to navigate and resolve complex business issues.
  • Well-rounded project and people management capabilities.
  • Excellent communication and presentation abilities for engaging stakeholders.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple tasks, prioritize work, and meet deadlines.

Salary
N550,000 – N700,000 monthly.
