Overview of Position

  • We are currently seeking an experienced Systems Administrator with a minimum of 5 years hands-on expertise to join our dynamic IT team.
  • The Systems Administrator will play a key role in managing and maintaining the organization’s IT infrastructure, ensuring the reliability, security, and optimal performance of systems.
  • The System Admin will support and manage all aspects of planning, configuring, deploying, supporting, and decommissioning AIX systems for their customers.
  • The System Admin will assist with integration with other Enterprise software utilized by the organization.
  • The System Admin will assist in the delivery of systems and applications and provide Problem Resolution assistance.
  • The System Admin will assist in designing and architecting infrastructure solutions and providing incident response with high satisfactions.
  • The ideal candidate will have a strong background in system administration, a proactive approach to problem-solving, and a deep understanding of various IT technologies.

Responsibilities
System Maintenance:

  • Perform routine system maintenance tasks, including software updates, patches, and security configurations to ensure the stability and security of the IT infrastructure.
  • The Individual will also set up and maintain user access for all employees.
  • Builds and modifies custom reports within multiple platforms
  • Assist with Technology Refreshes (Hardware, Operating System, Patching and Firmware).
  • Proactively monitors and works incoming tasks and incidents logged into one of the work flow tools or incident-management database system.

Server Administration:

  • Manage and administer servers, both physical and virtual, ensuring high availability, performance optimization, and efficient resource utilization.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve network issues to maintain seamless connectivity.

Security Management:

  • Implement and maintain security measures to safeguard systems and data.
  • Monitor for security vulnerabilities and incidents, and take proactive measures to address them.
  • Audits network security and compliance requirements.
  • Implements & manages user and network security

Backup and Recovery:

  • Develop and execute backup and recovery strategies to safeguard critical data.
  • Test and validate backup systems regularly to ensure data integrity.
  • Backup and Restore responsibilities.

User Support:

  • Provide technical support to end-users, addressing hardware and software issues. Collaborate with the helpdesk team to resolve user-reported problems in a timely manner.
  • Also, develop expertise to train staff on new technologies.
  • Set up accounts and workstations

Documentation:

  • Maintain comprehensive documentation of system configurations, procedures, and troubleshooting steps.
  • Contribute to the knowledge base to facilitate efficient issue resolution.
  • Writes documents for user-training and support.

Capacity Planning:

  • Monitor system performance and plan for capacity upgrades as needed.
  • Collaborate with other IT teams to ensure scalability and responsiveness of systems.
  • Researches, recommends, and purchases new hardware and software.
  • Capacity management reporting

Installations:

  • Installs and maintains new software & hardware ensuring licensing laws are followed.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience in system administration.
  • Technical Skills:
    • Proficiency in administering Windows and/or Linux server environments.
    • Experience with virtualization technologies (e.g., VMware, Hyper-V).
    • Knowledge of networking protocols and security practices.
    • Familiarity with backup and recovery solutions.
    • In depth familiarity with Shell scripting, Automation programming (i.e., sed, awk, Perl, Python), as well as AIX performance monitoring, tuning, and troubleshooting.
    • Candidate should be able to participate as IBM Power Systems, AIX subject matter expert (SME) on multi-discipline project planning, support, and troubleshooting teams.
  • Relevant certifications such as MCSA, MCSE, CompTIA Server+, or equivalent.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written. Ability to convey technical information to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to diagnose and resolve complex technical issues.
  • Ability to work independently as well as with a team, to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers and customers.
  • Solid foundation with NFS client/server administration, SUDO configuration, LDAP client administration.
